STAMFORD, CT – December 7, 2004 – Protegrity Corporation, the leading technology innovator for enterprise-wide database and storage security, announced today a four-part webinar series designed to educate technology professionals and security executives on data security fundamentals; the pros and cons of various security methods; the benefits of centralized, business-driven security policies; technology considerations; and a wide range of other topics.
The first seminar in the series, “Defense in Depth: A Guide to Securing Sensitive Information,” is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15, from 9:00 to 10 a.m. EST and from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., EST.
The Security Fundamentals series is designed to meet major educational needs of the enterprise market. Presentations will help companies make informed decisions about security-related investments by discussing different security options available and the realistic returns associated with each. The series will also define the components of an enterprise security framework and offer guidance on how to implement comprehensive security policies that support business goals and priorities.
“We see significant confusion and misconception in the market around the topic of security,” said Gordon Rapkin, Protegrity president and CEO. “This confusion is exacerbated by the emerging regulatory requirements for privacy and security. Our mission is to help companies make sound, future-proof investments and to implement security solutions that will ensure regulatory compliance under the strictest of scrutiny and truly protect valuable corporate assets.
“Although security is typically viewed as a technology issue, in fact, it should be viewed first and foremost as a major business issue. This series will help bridge this perception gap. Business managers will learn the security fundamentals they need to work with IT to implement corporate-driven solutions. And, the presentations will also give technology professionals the business background required for sound recommendations to senior management.”
The seminar will cover these and other topics:
Security challenges facing businesses today. Presenters will discuss the legal and financial requirements, competitive pressures, and employee and customer privacy issues driving the need for comprehensive security solutions.
The wide range of technology and business changes forcing companies to take a new, rigorous look at current strategies. Many solutions are now obsolete because of extensive outsourcing, partner marketing, remote accesses, widely heterogeneous technology environments, and an explosion of networking, storage, and processing technologies.
Different security approaches -- at the database, storage, and application levels – and their strengths, weaknesses, and required investment levels.
Security governance best practices. Presenters will describe the value of corporate-driven, centralized policies; separation of data administration and security responsibilities; and facilitated communications between business and IT.
Auditing requirements for effective compliance and accountability.
Principles of effective encryption key management – an area where many solutions fall short. Attendees will learn the differences in encryption technologies and methodologies and the related performance impacts.
“There are huge differences in the security options available today. Many people continue to be influenced by old information, unrealistic expectations, and a continued focus on network and system perimeter security – which unfortunately still leaves companies exposed to internal threats,” said Ulf Mattsson, Protegrity chief technology officer and the inventor of several patented security technologies. Mattson’s articles have appeared in publications such as DB2 magazine, OSNews, Linux Security and Network Computing. He recently contributed a chapter on real-time prevention systems for commercial enterprise databases to Data Mining V, published in 2004 by WIT Press.
Corporate customers implement Protegrity’s solutions to centrally define and manage enterprise database security policies and to comply with current and emerging regulations such as HIPAA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, Visa’s Cardholder Information Security Program, and Master Card’s Site Data Program, as well as California State Bill 1386. Secure.Data selectively encrypts sensitive data at the data-item level for database and storage security. The solution, which incorporates patented security technology, delivers a unique combination of strong data protection and extensive auditing and management reporting capabilities, without impacting existing applications and IT infrastructure.
