STAMFORD, CT – December 28, 2004 – Findings from a recent poll conducted by Protegrity Corporation, the leading technology innovator for enterprise-wide database and storage security, show companies perceive internal security threats –those inside the firewall such as employees, partners, and suppliers – as having greater potential economic impact than external threats. The vast majority of companies are most concerned with the protection of customer information. Yet, the poll also found that most companies are in early planning stages of comprehensive data security solutions. The poll was conducted as part of the first educational seminar in Protegrity Institute’s Security Fundamentals series.
“These results verify our market observations – companies are now realizing that outside hacking is only one of multiple threats to sensitive information. Solutions must offer more effective protection against internal threats, while standing up to current and emerging regulatory requirements,” said Ulf Mattsson, Protegrity’s chief technology officer and the inventor of several patented security technologies. “The market is filled with misinformation, and the stakes are high. The wrong decision wastes dollars, leaves critical data unprotected, and potentially exposes a company to legal liabilities.”
Corporate customers implement Protegrity’s solutions to centrally define and manage enterprise database security policies and to comply with current and emerging regulations such as HIPAA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, Visa’s Cardholder Information Security Program, and Master Card’s Site Data Program, as well as California State Bill 1386. Secure.Data selectively encrypts sensitive data at the data-item level for database and storage security. The solution, which incorporates patented security technology, delivers a unique combination of strong data protection and extensive auditing and management reporting capabilities, without impacting existing applications and IT infrastructure.
Protegrity’s next educational webinar, “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of Information Security Methods,” is scheduled for Wednesday, January 12, at noon EST. The webcast, the second in a four-part series, is designed to educate technology professionals and security executives on the strengths and weaknesses associated with different data security methods -- encompassing perimeter-, application-, and database-level security options. The webcast will also cover the tradeoffs for various methods of data-level security, such as hashing, scrambling, and encrypting. Webinar attendees will receive a detailed checklist to assist in evaluating different security methods and vendors.
